Good Morning: A Book of Nevada Sunrises

Good Morning

Good Morning

I’m launching a Kickstarter for my Good Morning book of sunrises. Last winter, I received a small grant from the Nevada Arts Council to support the creation and printing of an artist’s book that will compile over 500 images taken of the Nevada sunrise from my fifth-story apartment window. I moved from that apartment in October of 2019 and so the project naturally came to an end. I had been photographing the sunrise out of the east-facing window for 7 years. It wasn’t a daily practice but I was up early and around at least 2-3 times per week to document the sun coming up over the Virginia Range. I posted the photographs on Instagram each day. The project lived on social media and all of the images were made on various iterations of my iPhone, handheld, through the open window. I decided I wanted a way to preserve the project in one place where all the images could be seen together and a book seemed like a perfect way to do that. Check out my Kickstarter page for more information on the book and to preorder a copy!

Interview on KNVC

I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Deana Hoover at KNVC in Carson City about my artwork and residency in Silver City, NV. You can listen to it on KNVC.org.

Residency in Silver City

Coming up this spring, I will be the resident artist at the Silver City Artist Residency at the McCormick House in Silver City, NV. In late April and early May, I will be spending time in this rural community working on new projects.

In 1972, Jim McCormick and his wife Sandy built a connected series of geodesic domes in Silver City, NV from plans Jim found in a Whole Earth Catalog. He recruited help from UNR students for part of the construction. The domes became the largest sculpture of Jim’s art career. That dome house, now fondly referred to as the “McCormick House,” serves as housing for artists from around the world who have been awarded residencies through the Resident Artist Program in Silver City. The Program is directed and funded by Jim’s son and daughter-in-law.

I am looking forward to this incredible opportunity to have some solitude and dedicated time to make artwork and get to know the community.

Feature on Arteffects

The local PBS station, Channel 5 KNPB, did a segment on me and my artwork for Arteffects, a show that highlights local artists and arts around the region. You can watch my segment here:

DRIFT

An upcoming exhibition at The Holland Project with Victoria Buck featuring art made from our time in the Arctic Circle.

Megan Berner and Victoria Buck both traveled to Svalbard, an archipelago in the Arctic, on a residency with the Arctic Circle in the summer of 2015. The residency consisted of two weeks aboard a tall sailing ship, The Antigua, with a group of 27 other artists, writers, and dancers exploring the area. This exhibition will center around the work that each of these artists started on their journey and have continued from their experience while in residency.

Exhibition Dates: July 11 - July 28, 2017

Location: The Holland Project, 140 Vesta St, Reno, NV, 89502

Riverside Artist Lofts on Arteffects

Local PBS station KNPB did a segment on the Riverside Artist Lofts for an episode of Arteffects, a show that not only delves into the local arts scene but encompasses art features from across the nation. I am one of the residents interviewed in the segment, which starts around 20 minutes in. You can watch it HERE.

Upcoming Residency at PLAYA

I'll be heading to PLAYA in Summer Lake, Oregon for two weeks at the end of the month. I'm looking forward to having some concentrated time to work on projects for Desert Notes (upcoming collaborative exhibition at Sierra Arts Foundation in Reno in August and at Left of Center Gallery in October in Las Vegas) and to start some new projects inspired by the open space and other artists-in-residence. Check back for updates!
